Many people have cells in their bodies that are not their own. This is mainly because during pregnancy, cells from mother and child can migrate through the placenta into each other's bodies. Years later they can still be found in the body - this is called microchimerism. An international group led by Med-Uni Graz and the University of California is on the trail of such cells and wants to understand their effects.
